Boere Troos with MannaBrew (South African Comfort Drink)

Boere Troos with MannaBrew (South African Comfort Drink)

"Boere Troos" (which translates to "Farmer’s Comfort") is a traditional South African hot beverage, typically made with coffee, condensed milk, and sometimes a dash of brandy or spices. This version swaps coffee for MannaBrew, a caffeine-free mesquite coffee alternative, adding a rich, naturally sweet, and nutty flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (250ml) hot MannaBrew (brewed according to instructions)
  • 2 tablespoons condensed milk (adjust to taste)
  • •    ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 shot of brandy or rum (optional, for a traditional kick)

Instructions:

  1. Brew the MannaBrew according to package instructions, making a strong cup.
  2. Add condensed milk and stir until fully dissolved. Adjust the sweetness to your preference.
  3. Stir in cinnamon and vanilla extract for extra warmth and depth of flavor.
  4. (Optional) Add a shot of brandy or rum for an authentic Boere Troos experience.
  5. Serve hot in a mug, with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Enjoy with rusks (South African beskuit) for dipping.
  • Pair with a warm blanket and a good story for the ultimate comfort drink.
  • For a frothy version, blend the drink or use a milk frother before serving.

This MannaBrew twist on Boere Troos offers the same creamy indulgence as the classic, but with the added benefits of mesquite’s natural sweetness and nutrients.
