The Magic of Mesquite

The Magic of Mesquite

The flavour of Mesquite

The sweetness of mesquite is subtle and complex, with natural hints of caramel, molasses, and sometimes cocoa-like undertones. Unlike refined sugars, mesquite's sweetness is mellow and earthy, which makes it taste more balanced and less sharp. This gentle sweetness pairs well with its slight smokiness, creating a flavour that’s rich and full-bodied without being overpowering. It’s a bit like the natural sweetness you find in dates or figs but with a nutty, almost cinnamon-like depth that makes it unique.

History of Mesquite

Mesquite seed pods have been a staple food for Indigenous peoples of the Americas, especially in arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, for thousands of years. Mesquite was highly valued by these ancient civilizations.

The Mesquite seedpods were ground into flour to make a nutritious meal, porridge or bread. The pods provided a reliable source of food, especially during droughts as they are rich in fiber and essential minerals. The sweet flavour also made them a natural sweetener.

The natural sweetness of mesquite made it a valuable source of energy, and its high fiber and protein content helped sustain communities. Additionally, mesquite pods and flour held medicinal value, being used to help with digestion, stabilize blood sugar, and treat wounds due to their antibacterial properties.

MannaBrew is made from roasted Mesquite seedpods. The seedpods are milled and blended to achieve the perfect consistency for brewing. The roasting process allows the sweetness from the Mesquite to be enhanced which provides the natural sweet taste found in MannaBrew.
